Flex

A term that is used to describe how much the ski bends. The amount of flex a ski has will affect how it feels and reacts in different snow and skiing conditions.

Flex ratings can refer to the stiffness of an entire ski or to specific sections such as the tail or tip. Stiff-flexed skis are more difficult to bend, and tend to be more responsive in harder snow conditions and at high speeds. They can be difficult to handle in deep snow and soft powder. Soft-flexed skis bend more easily and, as a result, are easier to control and turn at lower speeds and in softer snow.
