Bindings
An attachment that is used to anchor the ski boot to the ski. They are set to skier classification, height, and weight and should only be set by a certified technician.
There are different types of bindings for different types of skiing:
Alpine
Most bindings for Alpine skiing work by fixing the ski boot to the ski at the toe and heel. However, to reduce injury, the binding allows the boot to release in case of a fall.
Cross Country (Nordic)
This binding fixes only the toe, leaving the heel free to move.
Telemark
Similar to the cross country binding, the telemark binding fixes only the toe, but is more heavy-duty in order to withstand the increased forces encountered in high speed descents.
Alpine Ski Touring
A special ski binding that allows the heel to be clipped down to the ski when skiing downhill, but that allows it to be released when climbing.
