Anti-Friction Device (AFD)

A mechanical slider or Teflon pad attached to the top of the ski just behind the binding toe unit, on which the ski boot toe rests. The device is designed to reduce friction between the boot sole and the top of the ski so that the boot releases smoothly during a fall.
